  • naked soul reflections – seeing the other door - New episode of Naked Soul Reflections – “Seeing the Other Door” Link to audio on Spreaker: https://www.spreaker.com/user/clothesfreelife/naked-soul-reflection-seeing-the-other-d I found myself standing approaching the front entrance to my building, which has a set of double doors. A long stream of people was coming out of the left door. However, the person in front of me, instead of opening the door on the right to enter, stood waiting for the stream on the left to end. How often do we, in our lives, stand waiting for the drama/busyness on the left to end before taking action, when there might have been a door on the right that we could have opened all along? In this episode I touch on how clothes free life and clothes free camping have helped me see alternate doors in other areas of my life. This week I invite you to think  on three things: What is one thing/area in your life where you feel stuck? Is there another door? What can you draw on from your clothes free life that could help you …

  • naked soul reflection – textures of truth - In this episode of Naked Soul Reflection, I share some reflections that arose for me as I walked about barefoot on Sunday. Link to audio: https://www.spreaker.com/user/clothesfreelife/naked-soul-reflection-textures-of-truth Walking around barefoot reminded me of just how textured the world is. Usually, when I walk around in my shoes with a separation between me and the world, all I ever feel are is the texture of the shoe. I forget that ground, earth, floors change in character, temperature, texture, etc. Taking off my shoes reconnected me to a more honest reality. The real world is diverse in character. This also tied into a change in attitude I experienced about my body and my health. I thought my body was just this blob that, well, “This is just the way it is. Nothing I do is making a difference.” I thought it unresponsive, until I realized that I needed to change my perspective and approach. Once I did, my body began to shift and respond positively to the different foods I gave it, the increase in sleep, and the other adjustments …
  • wow: i’m here, i’m me - August 19-21, 2016 I found myself running around the hills and trees of Camp Ramblewood stark naked during Field Festival 2016. I was one of very few women who had opted to go nude at this clothing optional event. What’s more is that I was the only black woman who chose to bare much of anything. Black women wore the most clothing of all women present at that festival, even as other women of color experimented with going bare chested or completely nude. I find nothing wrong with one choosing to wear clothes. I believe that we all should have the right to choose how much or how little we want to wear and to be respected. And I should also note that I did not poll the women at the festival to ask them why they chose to wear what they wore. In fact, many people took this festival as an opportunity to use clothing etc. to express themselves in ways they might not normally get to do in la vie quotidienne. However, this …

  • wow: the importance of depicting men - Priscilla Frank recently published a piece in the Huffington Post, “A Woman Photographed 500 Naked Men To Normalize The Nude Male Body.” This piece covers the Bare Men project by  Abigail Ekue. Similarly, Suzannah Weiss of Papermag also wrote a piece “NSFW: See images from ‘Bare Men,’ a New Photo Book on Male Nudity” in July 2016. In the near future, you will hear an interview conducted by clothesfreelife.com founder and Editor-in-Chief, Earl D, with Ekue about her project. For today’s piece, I want to discuss why works like this matter when it comes to women’s issues in clothes free living.

  • naked soul reflection – what can you put down? - In this week’s Naked Soul Reflection we consider what things in our lives we can put down in order to create more ease along our journey. Link to audio on Spreaker: https://www.spreaker.com/user/clothesfreelife/naked-soul-reflection-what-can-you-put-d I recently realized that I do not have to carry around a 40-50lb backpack full of items throughout the day. Instead, I can use a hand cart that I have, and I can also leave things behind that no longer serve me. Although this suggestion is something several family members offered to me ages ago, only now does it sink. Perhaps I was trying to prove something to myself by insisting on carrying around that heavy backpack. But this weekend, I chose to take that weight off my back and use the cart. I found ease. Questions for consideration: What is one thing in your life that you have insisted on carrying, despite it causing you discomfort, pain, or other negativity? Can you put that thing down? How do you feel whenever you do manager to surrender to ease? In this episode, I quote two …
  • clothes free life in Indonesia guest contributor Aditya - I was born on the 25 of March 1981. I knew and became a nudist was in the year of 2007. Its not easy to be a nudist in Indonesia. There are a lot of thing that obstruct nudism here, such as religion and lack of knowledge about the differences between nudism and sexual activity. I have a dream that one day people will realize that nudism and sexual activity are not the same. So I wanted to share a perspective on clothes free living from Indonesia. Indonesia is a large country divided by seas. It has a lot of islands. Indonesia also has thousand of tribes. But unfortunately, many people across Indonesian areas are not highly education. Still, there are many remote areas where people cannot  fulfill their education. So many people don’t have wide knowledge about things such as about nudism. Many people, still think that nudity equals sexual activity. They only think nakedness is only for taking a bath or for sexual activity. They don’t know that there are many things that related to …
  • What does it take for a person to decide to be clothes free ? Guest contributor verygary - The average (below average?) person needs to be nudged into understanding that nudity mainly involves familiarity with the practice, and that once anyone quits wavering between the dangers and joys, s/he may then take that first step. If there’s a way to help someone make that decision to try being comfortably dressed or undressed around friends, maybe that person could be coached into understanding it without being coaxed into doing something unwillingly. Just do it. That sounds easy enough, but a person does need to be okay with the clothes free  idea: the idea that being uncovered does not automatically mean being dangerously harmful. A first experience that happens to turn out comfortable can contribute to the success of the attempt, but actual nudity needs to feel intriguing yet possible — possible but not overwhelming — achievable, and above all, acceptable, but if even you cannot “just do it” you can still make a decision that nudity might be socially okay in relaxed situations. One more time: to agree to a clothes free  life doesn’t …

  • WNBR Manchester report – guest contributor John Harding - Three weeks ago I did something that I had been wanting to do for years; I took part in a World Naked Bike Ride. Previous years had fallen on family occasions or work commitments and I had been unable to attend the nearest ride, in Manchester, which is around 20 miles from my countryside home. This year, I was working in London on the Friday and spent an additional day in the capital city so I could attend my first WNBR on Saturday 11th June. My journey started at my parents’ house at the end of the Underground network, and a mere mile ride down to the local station. There are strict rules on London trains where cyclists can take bicycles, and my journey ended an hour later at Baker Street which is where I had to depart. The London WNBR has six different start points; those starting at Regents Park, Hyde Park and Kings Cross ride through London to Piccadilly Circus where all three groups converge. A bit further on, the cyclists from Tower …
  • access denied naturist push to make Toronto beach nude only was a monumental fail here is why - The recent efforts of some naturists to require visitors to be nude at the clothing optional designated part of Hanlan Point Beach in Toronto was a monumental fail. The experience of a woman who was confronted by two male “naturists and told she needed to get undressed. was reported first on Reddit and then picked up by media outlets in Canada and internationally. In the eyes of this writer the misguided efforts of the nude only proponents which include a leader of the Canadian naturist federation did more harm than good. It may well have created lasting consequences for clothes free beach goers in Toronto and those trying to normalize simple nudity and clothes free living in general. Here’s why I believe it was a major fail. Engagement diversity fail – The wrong people, the wrong time, the wrong place. Two older men telling a woman that she needs to take her clothes off when she visits a public clothing optional beach is nothing short of creepy. Regardless of their intentions it reinforces the public perception …
  • wow: the naked feminine - In this week’s Women on Wednesdays, I look at femininity as it relates to clothes free living. This issue surfaced loud and clear like sirens from an ambulance when I first started clothes free living. Today, I continue to notice certain trends in how femininity is promoted and expressed not only in images that are circulated by men, but also in how women express and promote femininity.
  • naked soul reflection: pause - In this week’s Naked Soul Reflection, we look at the importance of pausing. Link on Spreaker: https://www.spreaker.com/user/clothesfreelife/naked-soul-reflection-pausing This past week, I found myself having to pause in my life. I took a few days off from work and spent time doing nothing so that I could heal mentally and emotionally. There were many events over the past 8 years that I hadn’t allowed myself to acknowledge or fully process. That all came to a head this week, and the stress forced me to take time being still. Although I’m still practicing pause and non-doing, one thing I can say is that pause is helping me release some emotions I didn’t even know where there deep down. Some questions as you practice pause this week: Where in your life could pause serve you? Are you trying to fill the space with something? In what ways can you take time to be still this week? What happens when you take time to pause? What do you notice?

  • naked soul reflection – honoring flow in life - In this episode of Naked Soul Reflections we look at how to honor flow in life. Link to audio on Spreaker: https://www.spreaker.com/user/clothesfreelife/naked-soul-reflection-honoring-flow-in-l Flow shows up in all areas of life. Whether it’s moving intentional in a pose – mindfully setting it up, abiding in it responsibly, and exiting it with grace – or engaging a conversation with someone mindfully – connecting with the person, navigating the conversation moment to moment, and leave the conversation gracefully – flow is everywhere in our lives. This is a critical practice for me everywhere in life right now. I have navigated some challenging conversations in the past couple of years, even recently, and thinking about these interactions as flow helped me to start them mindfully, move through them intentionally with breath, and close the conversation without burning bridges or destroying house. Not always. I have tumbled, too, being human and all. But this idea that flow is everywhere in life is very present for me right now. This week, what aspects of your life can you look at and approach with …

Spreaker link: https://www.spreaker.com/user/clothesfreelife/naked-soul-reflection-doing-non-doing This past week brought the question of balancing doing and non-doing to the forefront for me. It was a question with which I had been wrestling for quite some time, actually. Years. But, in the past week, it surface quite strongly not only as I reviewed the news, but also as I considered my family members and dealt with friends and colleagues at the office. I even engaged the question around eating. When should I be in action and when should I be still? Some questions to consider for the week: What issues in your life bring up the question of whether or not to act? Can you take a step back for a few moments and be still to observe your thoughts? Are you wondering if you should act, because you feel like you “should” say or do something, or do you have a clear call in your heart to say/do something specific? These questions could apply …
  • wow: do you hear what I hear? - For the past few months, several of the pieces I’ve done for Women on Wednesdays looked at how women from Mexico and Peru; Morocco, Egypt, Tunisia; Cameroon; and other parts of North Africa and the Middle East have been using nudity for political protests. Recently I came across yet another piece “Undress for redress: The rise of naked protests in Africa” written by Nangayi Guyson (yes, go read it) discussing some history of nude protests conducted by women in Africa, notably Uganda and Kenya in that piece. One key excerpt: “Naked protests in Africa have historically been symbolic forms of collective protest, generally by the poorest and most marginalised women in society,” says Aili Mari Tripp, Professor of Political Science and Gender & Women’s Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. “Women have used these forms of protest throughout history and in many parts of the world, but especially in Africa.” For many women around the world, the naked body is not just about being seen. There is, of course, value in some movements that focus on being seen. Such movements tend to illustrate that there …

  • 5 marketing hacks for promoting nudism naturism and clothes free living - Today I came across a post on the R/nudism Reddit which is emerging as a place for some of the best and most intelligent conversations about nudism and naturism online.  Ideas to promote nudism/naturism online? from nudism The question is a very important one for the future of nudism/naturism. As has been shared before it seems to this writer that we have lost our brand and are I jeopardy of not ever being able to reclaim it. So I responded to the original post and thought to share the response here for those who are not on nudism.reddit.com and to illustrate an effective marketing technique. Share in the comments if you recognize the technique.  My reponse The issue is really as simple as you state it. Those doing the marketing are typically out of touch with current  fast moving marketing trends or promote other stuff using nudist label.  We have tried to address some of these issues through our web site but they remain a challenge.  Most of the images you find on the internet …

  • naked soul reflection: discovering truth - Audio on Spreaker: http://www.spreaker.com/user/clothesfreelife/naked-soul-reflection-discovering-truth In this week’s Naked Soul Reflection, we ask, “What is true?” Some questions that have come up in my life practice / self-inquiry of late: Are you waiting for someone to tell you what to do / give their approval? Are you using yoga for the sake of telling you how to live your life? Are the things that used to be true for you (e.g. job, yoga style, snack foods, etc.) still true? If not, will you change to something that is currently true? Are you willing to put down the things that are no longer true, or will you continue to wear them even as they rip like old clothes? The text of the excerpt I read from a book during this episode: I maintain that truth is a pathless land, and you cannot approach it by any path whatsoever, by any religion, by any sect….Truth being limitless, unconditioned, unapproachable by any path whatsoever, cannot be organized; nor should any organization be formed to lead or to coerce people along any particular path. …
  • when wisdom comes - I have a secret spot that hovers above a very busy intersection. At any time of day, angry horns, voices and ambulances rage the lanes, employing a variety of sounds and swears in various languages. Planes stream by every 5-10 minutes. And yet, despite the fact that I am normally not able to sleep (no matter how much I work out or what I do or do not eat), I can fall asleep in my secret spot clothes free outside with no problem, despite the noises. Something about the fresh air coursing through my body and enveloping my entire being puts me at ease. It gives me peace. My first great revelation to this came last summer when I first went clothes free camping. Reading, writing, doing yoga, eating, cooking, walking and sleeping all day long not only taught me what it felt like to be free, but it connected me to what truth feels like in my body. What has since come alive for me is what I’d dare to stand for or in my everyday life. I’m daring to question all the things …
  • barely in the family - Two weeks ago, my mother, aunt, brother and I went up to Manhattan for the day. As we ventured through Times Square, we came across a group of bare chested women body painted in red, white and blue who permitted tourists to stand with them and take a picture. I paused in my steps and, after a few deep breaths, shared that I wanted to take a bare chested picture with the women. This would be my first time telling my brother and aunt about my bare-chested and clothes free life. My mom was over the moon and shouted ecstatically, “My daughter’s a naturist and she’s going to take a topless picture with these women!” in the middle of Times Square as she snatched my phone to capture the moment. It was heart-warming to see her excitement. I pranced over to the women and informed them of my request, and they expressed some excitement given that I, too, would be standing bare chested, enjoying the right to be. The moment I freed my chest, the breeze brought a refreshing breath to my skin, and I felt like …
  • naked soul reflection – seeing the deeper peace - Seeing and connecting with peace from a deeper place. Spreaker link: http://www.spreaker.com/user/clothesfreelife/naked-soul-reflection-seeing-the-deeper- I got present to the fact that I had been using my meditation as a drug to erase or change how/what I was feeling. Whenever I found myself nervous, upset or anxious about something, I would sit and meditate with the goal of erasing those feelings. Now, I am practicing just being present to what I feel without the intention of erasing or manipulating things. Rather, I practice expanding my vision to see that whatever is on my mind is just small bits in the landscape of who I am, my soul, and the deep peace and stillness within.

  • clothes free adventures in nature - What began as a dare soon became a passion when I very quickly realised that the weirdest thing about being naked was that it didn’t feel weird at all. Then I discovered Instagram sites such as Clothesfreelife and was inspired to explore more. Being naked at home became the norm, but that then prompted me to take the freedom outdoors. Again, Instagram posts became my inspiration but the problem lay in finding places to go where I could be free of clothes without ‘alarming’ the clothed hikers and bushwalkers. But with a bit of research and planning (and often luck) I found it was certainly possible. In general I look for quiet, yet inspiring wilderness areas in my state of Victoria, preferably with a river or waterfall for swimming, or secluded tracks for exploring. I do take a cotton ‘hiking kilt’ with me in case I encounter others en route who might not appreciate the freedom of being clothes free… But I have yet to use it – even when some hikers wandered past me while …
  • Talk up question of the week is the posting of clothes free images of children online to promote naturism? - Our Talk up Tuesday question is a day late this week. SImply because we were trying to find questions with a positive outlook. But today it seems to be a challenge. So here goes. Recently on several social media platforms I have come across “naturist” accounts that regularly post images of naked families including children with the expressed purpose of promoting “family” naturism. There is nothing sexual in nature about these images usually the are scenes of beeach activities. The British documentary Naked Parents looks and families where at least the adults and often the children live clothes free to some degree. The video did a really good job of promoting clothes free living and included children talking on camera, none of them clothes free. So the question  “Is posting clothes free images of children online necessary to promote family naturism?”
  • “more than pics” in other contexts - Today’s Wednesday post looks at thoughts shared on a podcast episode regarding the importance of experience vs. pictures for the transgender community. I recently listened to the podcast Another Round, Episode 14 “Multitudity” with guest Tiq Milan during which Milan spoke to a number of issues facing the transgender community in terms of advocacy, advertising and strategy. One thing Milan noted is the importance of experience over pictures when it comes to supporting the trans community: Host: I know you talk a lot about the narrative of trans people, but also the visuals of these cable packages, where the B role is a lot of the body, like the focus, especially for trans people is, “We need images of bodies,” stuff, and that’s the primary focus. Do you consult in any way about not just the narratives but also the visuals? Milan: All the time, all the time. Host: What do you see often and like what are you trying telling them not to do Milan: A lot of times, I’ll go into a place, like a magazine or a TV studio, and …
  • on being clothes free in the Caribbean – guest contributor A Harrison - My clothes free life and musings I am a resident of Jamaica in the Caribbean. I have been a nudist for many years and i enjoy the practice. I personally have a nude yoga practice and i enjoy practicing yoga clothes free however nudity is not acceptable in Jamaica. I teach yoga to various individuals and wish to impart the liberating aspects of yoga to them Naturism is a lifestyle in harmony with nature, expressed through social nudity, and characterized by self-respect of people with different opinions and of the environment. We were born naked and should stay that way. There is nothing shameful or dirty about the human body. In fact it is clothing which causes sexual perversion; humans are always tempted by that which is hidden. Clothing suffocates and weakens the body which needs to breathe and absorb sunlight in order to function properly. The chemicals and detergents used to make and clean our clothes are detrimental to our health. Nakedness is natural. The first humans were clothed in a bright light or …
  • can we talk? – a barefoot connection to clothes free life – verygary - Some requests can be too demanding until a couple comes together to honestly negotiate them. Some subjects are taboo until a group decides that it can honestly discuss them. It is almost impossible to introduce the subject of nudity into a conversation. If the discussion begins to get serious, someone is likely to automatically dismiss the subject with, “Why would anybody even want to be naked?” and the possibility of nudity is promptly dropped. Then so is the possibility of any discussion. Nude activity feels too shameful even to be discussed. Barefooting is another subject that is almost as difficult to introduce into a conversation. Going barefooted is next to illegal. I want to suggest a parallel for talking about taboo subjects. Whenever someone voices reluctance to talk about a subject, then it needs to be introduced sideways sidewise. In places that frown on barefooted people, a person is not allowed to discuss the reason for going barefoot: shoes are required and there is no reason to discuss any further. For example, our county …
  • naked in the 21st century a review - Naked in the 21st Century by filmmaker  T.L. Young is a documentary posing as a film, about the making of a film, posing as a movie. Did you follow that? Well not everyone will or does. This cinematic effort by author and filmmaker T.L. Young is very reminiscent of his literated offering American Nudist a Lost Journal. Like the book this film is a bit of a mashup, trying to be several things at one time. Despite the challenges of low definition video, the collage-like character film and a not so smooth soundtrack, there is lots to like about this movie. NAked in the 21st Century is an exploration of twenty-first century expressions of simple nudity with frank, authentic discussions of naturist values and ethics are worthwhile viewing. Throughout the film various  “actors” talk about their experience with simple nudity and the impact that has on their lives. Link to episode on Spreaker: http://www.spreaker.com/user/clothesfreelife/naked-soul-reflection-june-6-2016 In my life, there are many times when I keep looking to see when a particular issue, phase, problem will end, when will I have answers. This would even show up in my meditation practice, as I would constantly look at the timer to see how much longer I had to sit. Now, I am practicing not looking at the timer and trusting that when it is time, the buzzer will sound, the timer will let me know that the season is over. I don’t know how long I’ll wrestle with finding balance for my body, for instance, but the timer will sound on this phase when the time comes. Meanwhile, I am here in this place, breathing, learning, growing.

This week’s question comes from a conversation on Twitter about the focus of the two major naturist/nudist organizations. One individual tweeted “social nudism” is alive a well and practiced worldwide though it is less promoted in U.S. Which raises the question what is social nudism? Is it a label a description an activity. Does it provide an appealing means of engaging people for growth? Or does naturism/nudism need rebranding for a new era and more diverse demographic? Thankfully, I was introduced to Brown Vegan, and through that website, I found an amazing vegan macaroni and cheese recipe that actually tasted like the bee’s knees. (OK, no, I haven’t actually tasted a bee’s knees, but you get what I mean. Who came up with that phrase, anyway? I mean, who was thinking about the knees of a bee? Do they have knees? I digress.) The Brown Vegan references the original recipe where she found this deliciousness, but I made most of the same adjustments she did. In addition, I opted to not use bread or Dijon mustard in my cooking adventure. What I loved about this recipe is that the sauce is actually made with vegetables, among other things, and came out super creamy and wonderfully savory. Without further ado, here is the pathway to this vegan comfort yum.

  • wow: women are not marketing objects - A short and sweet reflection for Women on Wednesdays today. As much as the clothes free / naturist / nudist community talks about how these movements aren’t just about naked bodies, I still see large numbers of retweets of nameless, story-less images. The following tweet came through my feed today via someone’s retweeting activities: Okay! Let's see how far an wide we can spread #nudism!Everyone click SHARE! Spread this amazing image far and wide! pic.twitter.com/dXArbg1km0 — Nudist love (@lovenudists) May 19, 2016   For me, these kinds of tweets are exactly why the movement is not making great headway. British Naturism is hosting “Women in Naturism” in one week, and yet people are still trying to draw women into naturism by using the same marketing techniques that the rest of society employs to sell their ideas and products. And the clothes free community, including those who call themselves experienced, long-time nudists, keeps re-tweeting these images. The account that posted this image claims that sharing this picture is the way to get the word out about how …
