Nude or naked?

Some of you may know that I write books. Writing books and stories means you have to consider the meaning of words carefully.

Considering the words ‘nude’ and ‘naked’.

They both refer to the state of being undressed, uncovered, clothes-free, yes. Still, to me they have a different charge as it were. Wikipedia’s take on these point to the same thing. Nudity. To me there is however an underlying difference.

What nude is to me.

To me this is nude. You may argue that I’m naked in this picture so let me explain. When I am nude, I’m undressed, I appreciate it to the max and I am ‘in my power’. I am undressed by my own choice and proud of my state of being. When I took  this picture it wasn’t warm. There was fog all around. Still I felt wonderful there, in nature, one with the elements of the moment. That is when you are in your centre of power.

What is naked to me.

caught_naked

Here is an example of someone I think is naked. It’s the ‘oops’ moment, the shyness, the not wanting to be seen like this.

It is when someone feels exposed and vulnerable.

Look at it this way: when you are nude and you walk around in the rain when it’s not cold, that’s all fine. You’ll get wet but you won’t shiver, you don’t feel bad.

When that same rain comes over you and it starts getting cold, you’ll feel naked. Exposed and vulnerable because this is not pleasant at all.

Note that this is just one example.

Naked does not always mean you’re weak.

Absolutely not, unless you make yourself weak. Having the courage to make yourself vulnerable is not a sign of weakness. It’s a sign of a different kind of strength. The world live in is a hard place where being weak is frowned upon. You have to be strong, in armour, fast and in control. Daring to be naked means you dare to be yourself, to be a real person who doesn’t want to be strong all the time. Trying to be strong all the time will wear you out on an emotional level or even detach you from your emotions. You become a machine, a robot.

Naturists and nudists, as far as I have met and talked with them, have the deliberate ability to go beyond that trap. They bare themselves. They make themselves naked as well as nude. They want to be vulnerable. Go into the mountains where you encounter nothing but sharp rocks and take off your clothes there.

Me on the rocks in Wales

See? You are vulnerable. This doesn’t mean you’re weak. This just means you acknowledge you’re not made of iron and you understand how thin your skin is, especially when you scrape against that rock.

The vulnerability is where you put it.

As you see, there are more ways to feel vulnerable. Good ways and bad ways. Getting caught in something you shouldn’t do makes you vulnerable, even when you’re completely dressed. The power of allowing yourself to be vulnerable, naked, is something different. You bring that upon yourself. You say to the world, “Yes, this is me as I am. Naked, unprotected.” That kind of vulnerability should gather respect. It does from me.

naked-and-afraid-cambodia-2

It’s entirely different from the popular TV series ‘Naked and Afraid’ where people put themselves in danger willingly.

I certainly respect the courage of the people who do this, but I don’t respect their nakedness as the kind I described earlier.

Be nude, dear friend. And dare to be naked. It makes you more complete as a human.

Paul.

♫ Cedar Trails To You! ♫

I happened to be crossing the bottom half of the state today.  I was on my own and with no fixed schedule, so I decided to not take the most direct route home.  Instead, I detoured a little south and made a stop at Cedar Trails Nudist Retreat (CTNR) in Peebles.  I’ve been wanting to check out this resort for some time, but just never seemed to find the opportunity to drive down that way.In anticipation of going to CTNR, I decided to do most of my driving naked, with the exception of an unbuttoned shirt.  The net effect is that I’m sitting in the driver’s seat, naked except for the sleeves of the shirt.  I think that this helps to keep people from wondering what is going on in my car if they should notice a totally bare chested man driving down the road.  There’s just something about a naked road trip, sun roof open, windows down and the wind of 65 MPH whipping through the car.  I love it!CTNR was not difficult to find, but is somewhat off the beaten path.  The resort consists of about 60 wooded acres right on the edge of an old meteor crater in southern Ohio.  Not too far away is the Serpent Mound, sort of a North American analog to Stonehenge in England.I pulled in and parked in the visitor’s parking lot.  I could see lots of people in and around the pool. By the time I made it to the office, one of the owners was waiting for me.  Pulled out my driver’s license, AANR card and some bucks and before I knew it, I was ready for an afternoon of naked fun.

Legal Hackette Lunches with the ‘Naked Rambler’

I meet Stephen Gough at the top of a hill overlooking Winchester prison, one of the jails in which he was incarcerated due to his desire not to wear clothes in public.Gough has cycled to the meeting point, which he selected. He is clothed in black lycra cycling shorts and an orange T-shirt — the latter of which quickly comes off due to the heat. After spending more than 10 years in prison because of his wish not to wear clothes, the 57-year-old former Marine has taken to dressing in order to be able to be a fulltime carer for his mother, who suffers from dementia. As debate rages about whether Muslim women should be permitted to cover their entire bodies when on the beach – a right which our hero ardently supports — Gough has found himself in trouble with the law for wearing too little.

curators’ note For a guy who has been made out to be crazy or just this side of it Gough sounds pretty rational and logical in this interview. If anything it’s society’s reaction that seems illogical.

welsh invasion -naturist style

The nudist invasion of a Welsh beach today should not offend – nakedness has nothing to do with sex

This morning those who harbour quite literal naked ambition will be heading for the Vale of Glamorgan for The Great British Skinny Dip.

The event which invites swimmers to skip into the waves off Monknash Beach unfettered by bikinis, bathing costumes or Speedos has been organised by British Naturism.

While everyone else seems to be wondering what is the politically correct line to take on France’s burkini ban, the governing body of British nudists is telling us to get our kit off. Completely.

All in the cause of healthy living, of course. Naturists always push stripping as a lifestyle activity as wholesome as a vegan super salad.

According to a spokesman: “This great event will provide lots of opportunities for people to try costume-free swimming across many varied locations, whilst having fun and raising awareness of how many people’s buttoned up attitude to the human body is causing them to lead potentially unhealthy lives.”

gawking stalking photographer punches top freedom protester in NYC

Topless Parade’ participant gets punched in throat by leering man

The attack unfolded at the corner of 47th Street and Second Avenue, after the near-nude woman spat in the man’s face following an inappropriate comment, witnesses said.

When the man, clad in a checkered red shirt, tailed and eventually confronted her, the woman spat in his face again, according to bystanders. He then clocked the exposed co-ed in the throat and shoved her before police closed in on the duo.

Both were cuffed and led away from the rally, where only about 50 women and men bared their breasts to expose the lack of “equal topless rights for all.”

The lack of support did not go unnoticed by those who opted to doff their tops — many taking part in the rally noted the crowds were mostly made of up gawking men and creeps with cameras.

curator’s note The newspaper’s coverage is equally detaining in the way the parade participants are described.
